Application logs can stop your machine if you do not control their size. By default, webserver IIS doesn't clean IIS logs and stores them in c:\inetpub\logs. If your server is high loaded, logs of IIS can get critical size in 2-3 weeks.

Application pool allows you to isolate your applications from one another in case if they are running on the same server. According to this, if there are errors in one application, they will not influence other web applications executing on the same server or the IIS server itself. But if your w3wp process has 100% CPU load, you must immediately find which process matches your application pool.
It’s a very useful code. Sometimes after activating features, installing solutions or anything else you need to make iisreset on all the application servers of your SharePoint farm.
Working with local copy of my WordPress site I found that I don’t see my uploaded images – I see thumbnails, but don’t see original images. My PC OS is Windows 7 x64, local web server – IIS. When I tried to open image, I got error 500 – in IIS it can be anything. (read more...)
